file_wrangler_2 in the works

A dramatic update is coming to the popular utility software.

Over the coming months, file_wrangler_2 is being prepared. The redesign of this website, and the implementation of a public blog, is my first step toward increasing awareness for the product. Much to my delight, I still receive email thanking me for the program, though it has been a few years since the last update. Of course, over the years I have received many feature requests and bug fixes and similar software has made strides beyond file_wrangler’s toolset. It is time to rewrite file_wrangler for OS X 10.5 and beyond, and I am excited to bring some of my new ideas to the public.

I’m intrigued with presenting a deep toolset that unfolds and reveals itself as one uses different features of the software. I am not necessarily a proponent of the “one button, one click” type of functionality; dense, cleanly designed interfaces offer much greater utility and are not nearly as obtuse as many would believe. So long as the interface gradually unveils it’s depth, allowing the user to grow into the toolset, a dense, yet focused, UI is the direction I’d like to go.

As the software develops, please be sure to visit this blog to check on progress. I intend to offer great transparency during my development process, giving those who are interested an opportunity to monitor and even gently guide the direction of the software.
