A New Website, A New Resolve

A new year, a new website, a new commitment to my software development. As one of the many who were affected by economic forces last year, I’ve decided to use this as an opportunity to focus on my software development and deliver a long-awaited sequel to file_wrangler to a very patient user base. I’m certain many have moved on to other programs by now, but the fact of generous donations five years after the launch of the program attests to its semi-popularity.

In thinking about getting a software development business running I have been reading a lot about ISVs, marketing, and the development process in general. It was very encouraging to see in print many of the concepts and ideas I’ve been mulling over the past six months. One of the principles that I feel strongly about, especially having learned and applied this lesson while working at Macy’s, was taught to me during my ScrumMaster training.

The idea of transparency, allowing users to always understand where a software project was, where it is, and where it is going, during the development process really forces me to always consider, “How does what I’m working on help my customer with her problem?” Remaining absolutely customer-focused and customer-facing is critical to any level of success, modest or grand.

By keeping a public record of my development progress, I hope to build a two-way street of trust between my potential customers and myself, and keep myself always focused on customer needs.
